Guide
User guide to Diaspo* 🌱
Welcome to Diaspo*, the decentralized Italian social network that is free and respects your privacy. No algorithms deciding what you see, no ads: just real people and authentic content.

🛠 How to get started
In three steps
Sign up on diaspo.it
Go to diaspo.it and create your account: an email, a nickname and a password are enough. You will get an email to activate your profile (if you cannot find it, check your spam).
Create your profile
At the top right click your name → Profile → Edit profile: photo, cover, a short description and the hashtags that represent you (#music, #reading, #linux…).
Explore the network
Search people, hashtags and content with the search bar. The Stream is your home page: posts of the people you follow and public posts.
Using Diaspo* every day
🗂 Organise your contacts
Put people into aspects (groups or circles): Friends, Family, Work, Interesting… or create your own. Every time you post you choose who sees it.
📝 How to post
Click “Share something” in your stream. You can:
- Write texts, even long ones
- Add photos or links
- Use hashtags to be found
- Tag other users with @username
🤝 Interact
Follow whoever interests you (no confirmation needed), comment, like and reshare the public posts you enjoy.
🔧 Useful settings
From the menu at the top right:
- Notifications: mentions, comments and more
- Account: language, email, password or deleting your profile
- Privacy: visibility, blocks and security

💚 Diaspo grows thanks to you
The strength of Diaspo is you
Diaspo has no sponsors, ads or algorithms: it is a free, community project. Here is how you can help:
- Tell friends and family about Diaspo
- Share valuable content and use hashtags
- Join the conversations
- Invite whoever is looking for an ethical alternative to mainstream social networks
- If you can, support the pod admins with a donation
🌍 A different social network is possible. But it needs you to grow.

🚀 The next step
Friends on Mastodon? Try Disbigle
Disbigle is the new social network made by the people behind diaspo*: the same aspects and the same philosophy as diaspora*, plus you talk with Mastodon and the rest of the Fediverse. If you feel good on diaspo*, you will feel at home there.
